December 29, 2018 Portage Bay to Anakiwa Bay

My 65th Birthday! Very nice day. Legs were a bit stuff but better than I thought they would be after the day before. JR told the hotel it was my birthday and we were given 2 bottles of champagne for breakfast!

Today was a 21 km Day with elevation gains at the start but then fairly mellow after that with stunning views of Marlborough Sound and Kenepuru Bay.

Today did not have the elevation gains and losses so was a much easier day than yesterday. We ended up at Anakiwa, a resort town on Marlborough Sound. Lots of bathers, kayakers, sailers, boaters, bikers and recreationists there on their holiday.

We had a lovely ride back to Picton on the ferry boat.

.After a nice shower, we went out for dinner in Picton. The restaurant we went to said they had an hour wait, we were in no hurry, so we seated ourselves outside. It was a lovely evening. The waiter came over and asked us if we minded sharing the table with another couple-we were happy to do that. They were a South African couple who had immigrated to Aukland 30 years ago and were on their holiday. We had a delightful dinner with them which made for a very memorable 65th birthday!
