We fly back to Arusha and go to Katambuga Lodge. Luxury at its finest. The owners of this lodge are friends of the Dorobo owners and I am sure we are not paying the $398 fee they have on their website.
This is really the grand finale. The food is American-ish and is absolutely yum. The presentation is that of a 5 star restaurant. The wine is good. The pool is good.
Jinky lounging at the pool
We do some final shopping. I am sure we all contributed quite well to the GDP in Africa!
The next morning we get up and leave at 0900 for a bike ride with one of the Dorobo owners. Cindy is very good friends with them and has been for 20+ years,.
The road outside of Katambuga Lodge. Note pavement, landscaping and vegetation. This lodge is in a very upscale area.
Our final day is a tour of a small coffee plantation and coffee tasting business. Our guide was VERY knowledgeable. Very interesting tour. we all really enjoyed it- even the ones who do not drink coffee!
We then had a coffee tasting. I realize that the reason I am happy to just get a brewed coffee and not buy $5 coffees is that they all taste pretty much the same to me. Good thing to know. I won’t waste my money, not that I buy many coffees anyway.
Everyone but JR and I leave on February 27. JR and I have a partial day on our own- we fly out at 6:15pm. We will drop about 80+ degrees by the time we arrive in Anchorage. We enjoy our morning and day and pack up. We have not bought too much, it all fits except for a glass vase which JR has offered to carry and will demand a $500 reward if it arrives in one piece. It cost $35….
A month together with only 4 hours apart and we are still married. We do travel well together….. next- Turkey and maybe Nepal. We have had a great time. The group was great; minor insignificant differences and problems. Cindy is a master herder, organizer and unflappable. I cannot give her enough credit for making this such a great trip!
